Good to know about Santa Claus

  • Water source. The Town of Santa Claus's water comes from three town wells on River Road near Grandview plus water purchased from Patoka Lake Regional Water, which treats surface water from Patoka Reservoir; both use chloramines for disinfection, and the Patoka Lake district adds fluoride. Source
  • Pipe materials and lead inventory. Santa Claus's water quality report says part of the town system uses asbestos cement pipe, so the town monitors water corrosiveness; lead and copper are tested every three years, and the service-line material inventory is at pws-ptd.120wateraudit.com/santaclausin. • Town water and sewer utilities. Santa Claus owns its water and sewer utilities: the original plants were built 1970-1974, a combined wastewater plant and office opened in 2003, and a new water plant, wells and transmission lines were finished in 2011. Utilities Superintendent 812-544-3329; after-hours emergency 812-686-2234. Source
  • Required sewer lateral inspections. Under Chapter 10.16 of the Santa Claus Municipal Code, sewer laterals must get a closed-circuit television (or other approved) inspection; the town's packet lists a water account name change, a building permit, a sewer back-up or town notification as reasons, and an inspection done within the last 10 years can be certified instead. • Town building permits and sewer rules. Santa Claus has its own Building Inspector (Todd Hays, 812-686-1506); its improvement location permit has applicants certify that only kitchen, bath, laundry and floor drains are connected to the sanitary sewer, and a new water connection costs $750 plus a $35 residential inspection fee. • Electric provider (IURC map). The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission's electric service territory map places Santa Claus in Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana (now CenterPoint Energy)'s territory. Source
